Blue Women Africa Magazine #001

We are pleased to present, on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, the first issue of the bilingual (English/French) biannual magazine of Blue Women Africa, dedicated to women in the blue economy in Africa.

This magazine, which complements the website www.bluewomenafrica.com, is intended to be much more than a publication. It is a forum, a platform, and a space for inspiration dedicated to African women who work, innovate, create businesses, and dream in fields related to the sea, oceans, ports, fisheries, aquaculture, marine research, maritime logistics, and ocean governance.

Through these pages, we aim to highlight the faces and journeys of women shaping Africa’s blue economy—sometimes in the shadows, often with courage, and always with determination.

This first issue perfectly embodies that ambition.

We have interviewed inspiring personalities, such as Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, whose commitment to the inclusion of women in the African maritime sector continues to leave a mark across the continent. We also showcase initiatives, organizations, and individual paths that demonstrate that women are not merely beneficiaries of the blue economy—they are essential and indispensable actors.

Africa’s blue economy can only reach its full potential if all of the continent’s talent is mobilized. And this implies an obvious truth: the full and complete inclusion of women.

Promoting education, encouraging mentorship, supporting women-led maritime entrepreneurship, amplifying initiatives driven by women, and inspiring the next generation—this is the mission we have undertaken through Blue Women Africa.

But this magazine is also yours.

It belongs to the women working in the blue economy, to researchers, students, entrepreneurs, decision-makers, institutional partners, and all those who believe that an inclusive blue economy is the key to sustainable and equitable development for Africa.

May these pages be a source of inspiration, knowledge, and commitment.

Because when women set sail, it’s not only their destiny that changes.

The entire continent moves forward.
