The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) are organizing a webinar via Zoom on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM (GMT+1) under the theme: “Unlocking the Value of Blue Resources in Africa and the Indian Ocean: Insights from the UNECA Blue Economy Valuation Toolkit.”
Building on the rich discussions from the October 2024 webinar on Innovations for a Climate Resilient Blue Economy Transition in Central and Eastern Africa, this event will offer an in-depth exploration of the Blue Economy Valuation Toolkit (BEVTK)—a powerful tool designed to quantify the economic, social, and ecological value of aquatic ecosystems to inform policy and investment decisions.
This webinar presents a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of blue economy valuation and its role in promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth. Participants will gain insights from the tool’s recent application in Tanzania and get a first look at the new online platform version of the BEVTK. The discussion will also provide an overview of upcoming research on the blue economy in Central Africa, offering further context on emerging opportunities and challenges in the region.
Additionally, the webinar will support the strategic goals of the IORA Working Group on the Blue Economy by creating an enabling environment for private investments and sustainable financing for Blue Economy initiatives to secure sustainable, economic, and inclusive growth.
